KCAA Boys All-Star Game
The Boys from the East got their first All-Star victory in 6 tries with a thrilling 93-91 overtime win over the West. John Fraley of Heritage dominated the game scoring 42 points and grabbing 28 rebounds for the West team. In a game that was sloppy at times with the teams combining for 70 turnovers, the East matched the dominance of Big John with a balanced attack of 5 players in double figures.
The game was a seesaw battle throughout. Near the end of regulation, the East took an 81-78 lead when Josiah Schoonover of Community stole the ball and passed to Stephen Albert also of Community for a layup. With the clock ticking down and the East's defense concentrating on Big John, Janssen Arney of Faith Heritage got open for a three and nailed it to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, the West took a 91-90 lead on two free throws by Justin Kollenberg of MICAH with less than a minute to go. Then on an inbounds play, Taylor Philpot of Community found Ben Davidson of Trinity open for a three after two picks from Josh Sizemore of Trinity and Mark Hines of Cornerstone. Ben buried the shot to put the East up for good 93-91.
The West still had some time but missed a number of three pointers. It then came down to inbounding the ball on the side with 4.3 seconds to play. The East had Big John sandwiched between Stephen Albert on the back and Ben Davidson on the front. The West tried to get him be ball anyway with a high pass, but Ben jumped up and made the steal to seal the win.
